Checked the block numbers...interesting 1970 350/300HP block. This engine may be worth keeping... Checked the head numbers...1970 64cc double hump heads! Okay, now I'm officially excited. Did a compression test on all eight cylinders and they all checked out with 150psi or more. More research and I have determined that this engine must have a compression ratio of 10.3:1 or more. I think this is a keeper! I pulled the engine and sure enough, 4-bolt main bearings!
Looks like the steering bar has been hitting the oil pan. Almost wore thru, will have to get my friend Pete to fix this up. Empty engine bay...let the cleaning begin. I pulled out the seats and rug to check the floor boards, they look at good as new Rear checks out good, too.
The rear deck and sail panels will have to be replaced. Turbo 350 is out and ready to send to the tranny shop. It looks like that old B&M shifter cable has gouged some of the housing...but I caught it in time. Finally found a set of bucket seats on ebay. These are fully reconditioned with new springs, foam and covering. My wife felt that the red interior had to go...so I got a set of original white and black SS interior panels. I'll have to get a black rug now and paint the dash...but I think it will look awesome.
