2nd annual Musical Inbreeders Convention, Dec. 29 at Amigos!
December 3rd, 2007
It’s an adult bandcamp with sexy results, a sloppy subarctic derby of humiliation, a clusterfuck of cover tunes, bad rock-n-roll and even worse lyrics, as Saskatoon’s shittiest musicians combine to form even shittier fake bands in a 24-hour scramble. With ex-pat Saskatonians back for the holidays, it’s a perfect chance for would-be musicians to throw their names in a hat, assemble into random line-ups and practice for no more than 24 hours before the shameful madness ensues.
So long as nobody dies, it’s all in good fun, raising dollars for the worthy Crisis Nursery - a local shelter for children of families in need.
How can you participate? Only the first 50 participants to RSVP will be included, so contact carbondatingservice@gmail.com ASAP.
We will meet for supper at Amigos Dec. 28 at 6pm to place our names in the hat and randomly assign teams.
Team captains are determined by whomever is willing and able to host one of the bands with a proper jam space.
We’ll see you all at the show!

Winter Inceskatoon
December 7th, 2007
This page has become a blog.
I am tired of writing formal term papers so please bear with my terse and informal coverage of the Saskatoon DIY music scene as it appears from my perspective.
Where to begin? Hype and rumors - let’s do this chronologically, and start by announcing:
- The Fjords and Ride Till Dawn Amigos are playing tomorrow night Dec 8th.* My liver has a date with disaster.
- Shuyler Jansen survived a wild tour with the Deep Dark Woods. Their triumphant return to the home stage takes place on Dec. 15th.*
- Golden Smoke are set to release their album on the most Sunnless day of the year, Dec. 21st.* This is a guarantee of intense psychedelic clockwork. The masterful Keith Doepker is DJing the event and the stage will also be shared with the Viscous Crystals. I haven’t yet seen this band but I hear wild tales about how well the lineup works and their gorgeous drugs are up on myspace.
- Some rogue Servants have thrown some brass towards the new Pearson record. Some of their pretty songs have been thankfully rescued from digital purgatory. Fuck you Windows, why you gotta pick on Pearson?
- I am excited to learn that Mike Hanson’s These Hands should be set to release another gem fairly soon.
I know I’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s going on in town.
As I get a handle on this blogging business, you can expect much more detailed account from me.
If there’s anything you’d like me to check out or mention, please feel free to drop me a line.
* unless I state otherwise, it’s safe to assume most shows addressed are at
Amigos Cantina.
